ARMIDALE STARTUPS TO JOIN $2.1 MILLION LOCAL INNOVATION NETWORK

Tuesday, 15 May 2018

ARMIDALE has been selected as one of seven locations across the State to join a $2.1 million Local Innovation Network to support local entrepreneurs to grow and create new jobs in the region, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall said funding of up to $300,000 would be provided by NSW Government-backed Jobs for NSW to support projects in Armidale, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay and the Newcastle and Wollongong Regional Areas.

“Armidale has a strong track record for startup or small business growth and I’m delighted the government is backing that with funding to support projects that will help those businesses have the very best chance of success,” Mr Marshall said.

“Applications are now invited from recognised leaders in the local startup and innovation community including from incubators, co-working spaces, startup networks, local universities and business groups.

“I want these local groups to work together on projects that could include refurbishment and technology upgrades for local startup spaces and the delivery of events and workshops to support local startup growth.

“This is a fantastic boost for local entrepreneurs, startups, incubators and accelerators, providing them with funding for startup development programs, technology upgrades, and other work to expand local capacity and outreach.”

Mr Marshall said Jobs for NSW would also partner with Armidale to make its suite of financial products – including grants, interest free loans and loan guarantees – more readily available to local entrepreneurs.

“When business people work together, bounce ideas off each other, they actually have a better chance of success and we want to make it easier for that to happen,” he said.

“By supporting the best environment for new businesses we can help create the jobs we need to make sure our region continues to be the best place to live and work, start a business or bring up a family.”

Expressions of Interest are now open. For further information visit the Jobs for NSW website at www.jobsfornsw.com.au
