DEDICATED local community members are being asked to help manage Armidale’s historic showground.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall is urging community members with an interest in local heritage, especially those with business or financial skills, to consider applying to become a trustee with the Armidale Showground Reserve Trust.

The Trust is seeking new members to help it manage the community reserve at Armidale Showground.

“These community assets do not manage themselves,” Mr Marshall said. “They are owned by the community, and are placed under community care through the Armidale Showground Reserve Trust.”

“This Trust has gone through a difficult period, after several members resigned early last year and an administrator had to step in to steer the organisation while it regrouped.

“Now the Trust is looking for more expertise. I strongly urge anyone who thinks they can contribute to apply for this important and rewarding role.”

Mr Marshall said the Trust is particularly interested in acquiring new members that have financial or business experience, with experience in objective decision-making, “but anyone who can support the Trust’s work should consider applying”.

The roles are voluntary, and will be held for a maximum of five years.

Across Mr Marshall’s Northern Tablelands electorate, around 670 reserves are looked after by community volunteers, who help care for valuable local infrastructure such as public halls, parks and reserves, swimming pools and smaller sportsgrounds.

Those interested in joining the Armidale Showground Reserve Trust can find application forms at www.crownland.nsw.gov.au/trusts/join_a_trust or by phoning 1300 886 235.

All applications are required to be lodged before Monday, 7 November 2016, by email to cl.reserves@crownland.nsw.gov.au or by post to Department of Industry – Lands PO Box 2215, DANGAR NSW 2309.
