THE Deepwater Golf Club has bagged a new storage shed for its fairway mower out of a funding drive helped along by local State MP Adam Marshall.

The Northern Tablelands MP has delivered some great news for the club announcing that the State Government has chipped in a $13,500 funding hit for it to build a new shed on the little sand-green course.

Club Treasurer Neil Zsoldos has welcomed the grant announcement, saying the local MP set them up in just the right position to access some funding to add significantly to their assets.

“We are extremely grateful to Adam for the effort he’s put in for us and for pointing us in the right direction to get this funding – it is a godsend for a small club like ours,” Mr Zsoldos said.

The new Colourbond shed, about the size of a double-car garage, will serve a number of purposes, including added security and storage for a new secondhand fairway mower they’ve sourced from their buddy club at Coffs Harbour and for housing a number of golf carts.

“And one of the main reasons for us to put this shed up was to support the Vegetable Creek Hospital Auxiliary which once a year caters for the Deepwater Races and they’ll be able to do some of that cooking and catering from the shed with new power points installed and in an all-weather environment,” Mr Zsoldos said.

Mr Marshall said the club only had about 16 members but some of those came from outside of Deepwater to play weekly on the nine-hole, 18-tee course.

“It might be a tiny club but it definitely punches above its weight as far as representative and pennants competition goes,” Mr Marshall says.

“They didn’t win it this year but they have won the net championships in the New England district golf association competition a few times, especially when it comes to sand green play.

“It is a club where all the help is voluntary, where loyalty and an honesty-system operates and where there’s a huge sense of comradeship among the players.”
