MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall was joined by local Mayors and the CEO of NSW Crown Holiday Parks Trust as the MP officially opened Copeton Waters new $600,000 water treatment plant yesterday.
The ‘turning on of the taps’ ceremony was well attended with Gwydir Shire Mayor, John Coulton, Inverell Shire Mayor, Paul Harmon and CEO, Steve Edmonds joining to celebrate the completion of this important park infrastructure.
The plant has a capacity of 250kL per day and the availability of fresh drinking water from every tap in the park will give visitors and campers certainty around drinking water supply.
“This is a welcome boost just in time for Christmas and New Year which is the park’s busiest period with more than 10,000 people visiting last year,” Mr Marshall said.
“The commissioning today of the new water treatment plant at Copeton Waters is a huge improvement and will make life easier for the many visitors to this sensational part of the region.
“I am confident that the availability of clean drinking water will encourage many more visitors to Copeton Waters.
“This is great news for the region and I look forward to inspecting the additional upgrades to sewer and power facilities early in the New Year.”
This NSW Government investment was delivered by the Department of Industry and NSW Crown Holiday Parks Trust (CHPT) working together as part of a $12 million program funded by the Government’s Public Reserves Management Fundto upgrade and renew utilities at the inland parks managed by the Trust.
NSWCHPT CEO, Steve Edmonds said the Trust was proud to help provide clean and fresh drinking water for the Inland Waters Holiday Parks.
“The design, construction and commissioning of the water treatment plants provide potable water to Australian Drinking Water Standards previously not available at the parks,” Mr Edmonds said.
“The new Water Treatment Plant for Copeton Waters and its scheduled major electrical and sewer upgrades due to be completed by the end of June 2016, will total around $1 million dollars.
“Adding power, sewerage and water of this standard to the Trust’s inland parks is important to providing improved services to park visitors, whilst retaining the outdoors experience,” Mr Edmonds said.
