IT may be remote, but Yetman is far from backward, as the community again demonstrated by the opening of its new outdoor gym last week.

Built with support from the State Government’s Community Building Partnerships fund, the gym was designed by the Yetman Hall and Progress Association to cater for anyone looking for exercise, from children to retirees.

The government supplied a $6,000 grant for the work, which was matched by Inverell Shire Council.

“I never fail to be impressed with the energy and drive of this little community, and of the Progress Association under Kate Dight,” said Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall, who with Inverell Council Mayor Paul Harmon, cut the ribbon to officially open the new gym.

“The gym, the nearby childrens’ playground, the upgraded hall, all represent a can-do attitude and an optimism about the future that isn’t always present in a community of this size.

“It’s always a pleasure to visit Yetman, and to do what I can to help the community’s next lot of plans come to fruition.”

The outdoor gym circuit was built by Inverell Council on the Yetman Recreation Grounds, which the community is steadily developing as a centre for all things to do with sport and fitness.

Selection of equipment was guided by community input, leading to a very broad set of options to cater for the cross-section of the Yetman community.
