WORK GOING AHEAD ON BINGARA’S GWYDIR RIVER & HALLS CREEK BRIDGES

SHINY new replacement parts are appearing on Bingara’s Gwydir River and Halls Creek Bridges as part of the $1.7 million upgrade program along Fossickers Way to improve pedestrian and road safety in the township.

When Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall dropped in on the work-in-progress, he found the new pedestrian walkway already extending most of the way across the 232-metre bridge, and plenty of evidence of other upgrades.

The Gwydir River Bridge and 55-metre long Halls Creek Bridge are being overhauled as part of $6 million allocated in the 2015/16 NSW Budget for road and bridge improvement works in the Gwydir Shire.

Along with improving pedestrian access, NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is replacing bolts and rivets, upgrading bridge approach improvements, replacing water mains and re-sealing deck surfaces on both bridges to ensure the structures continue to serve the community and motorists well.

“Other minor works will be also undertaken, such as new signage, cleaning, painting and greasing,” Mr Marshall said.

“These bridges have been servicing the Gwydir community for decades. It’s great to see them getting the attention they need.

“This major work is expected to take seven months to complete, weather permitting.

“Motorists are advised to expect short delays with reduced speed limits in place and changed traffic conditions. Electronic message signs will be in place to notify road users of these changes.”
