THE Moree PCYC will receive a grant of $17,042 from the State Government to replace a section of its roof, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall was at the PCYC late last week to deliver the good news to club manager Andrew Ryan. The MP visited the club earlier in the year to inspect sections of the building’s ageing roof which required repairs to make it completely weatherproof, ensuring the protection of the building’s interior and the valuable equipment.

“Manager Andrew Ryan made it clear to me then that the club didn’t have the required funds set aside to undertake these essential works and asked for help,” Mr Marshall said.

“I am delighted the government listened to the PCYC’s plight and that we’ve been able to secure the necessary funds through the Community Building Partnership Program.”

The Moree PCYC was built in 1981 and has become an important, well-used sport and recreational facility and community hub for young people throughout Moree, according to Mr Marshall.

“The Police youth case managers, staff and volunteers work with a range of disadvantaged groups and local schools, encouraging an active lifestyle and helping them develop not only in the sporting arena but also their character and leadership skills,” Mr Marshall said.

“It’s a wonderful facility and valued community asset and I’m very pleased that this support will ensure that the leaks of the past will be no more. The funding will also allow them to install gutter meshing to stop the guttering from blocking up.”

PCYC Manager Andrew Ryan said there was a growing concern about the safety of the electrical equipment in the building and the replacement of the roof had become a priority.

“We’re delighted to receive the grant; it’s an early Christmas present and we really appreciate the support Adam has given us,” Mr Ryan said.
