WEARNES Road, near Bundarra, has been fully upgraded and bitumen sealed by Gwydir Shire Council, thanks to $2.85 million in support from the previous State Government, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall inspected the completed roadworks last week and was pleased to see the significant improvement.
“This is fantastic news for Bundarra and district residents, with Wearnes Road now a much safer and smoother drive for all road users,” Mr Marshall said.
“The roadworks involved the gravel re-sheeting and bitumen sealing of a 17-kilometre stretch of Wearnes Road, north-west of the Bundarra township.
“Drainage structures were installed and four new causeways, which will ensure the road is protected during wet weather.
“Patching of a 2.9-kilometre stretch of already sealed road was also completed as a part of the upgrade.
“This is fantastic news for local Bundarra residents, particularly local primary producers, who have often found it difficult to navigate unsealed sections of road.
“Well done to Gwydir Shire Council on securing the funds and for overseeing the works.”
Mr Marshall said the Wearnes Road upgrade was funded under Round 4 of the former government’s popular Fixing Local Roads program.
