SENIORS from across the Northern Tablelands will celebrate life, friendship and the benefits of being active later this month with local State MP Adam Marshall today announcing a $2,000 State Government grant for the Guyra Seniors Extravaganza.

Mr Marshall said the money would be used by Armidale Regional Council to host an exciting over 60s party as part of NSW Senior’s Week 2020.

“Our senior citizens are the backbone of many community initiatives and volunteer groups, in every single town and village across our region,” Mr Marshall said.

“This $2,000 grant will support Armidale Regional Council’s Seniors Extravaganza in Guyra – a fun-filled day of entertainment and activities which will encourage people from across our region to come together and have a great time.

“With this year’s Seniors Festival themed Love to Celebrate, what better way to get out and about than with a get together with friends and listening to live music at Guyra.”

Mr Marshall said at the last census, people aged 65 years and over made up 19.4 per cent of the electorate’s population.

“Whether it’s volunteering at the local op-shop or looking after grandchildren I think seniors make the greatest contribution to social life in our communities,” he said.

“Council has done a fantastic job ensuring our senior citizens have access to services like public transport, which allows them to keep doing the things they love as they become a little less mobile.

“The Guyra Extravaganza will play an important role in promoting what services are available in Guyra and surrounding communities and I am fully supportive of the event.”

The 2020 NSW Seniors Festival wall take place from Wednesday, 12 February, to Sunday, 23 February 2020.
