$24,000 FOR MUNGINIDI HOME SUPPORT SERVICE UPGRADE

$24,000 FOR MUNGINIDI HOME SUPPORT SERVICE UPGRADE

WITH the help of a $24,000 grant from the NSW Government, the Mungindi Community Home Care Support Program (CHCP) is about to extend it office precinct to include a purpose-built activities room to better service its clients.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced the funding in Mungindi last week and met with CHCP staff and volunteers to discuss their plans.

“The staff and volunteers at CHCP provide a wonderful service to their 72 community clients, enabling them stay in their homes and remain independent and this new activities centre will add another dimension to that service,” Mr Marshall said.

“Providing social activities in a community-based group setting is a key component of the home support program, but as the Mungindi service does not have its own appropriate venue, they’ve had to hire halls and rooms to conduct any sort of event or activity.

“This has become expensive and limits the number of events they stage so I was more than happy to support their request for funding through the Community Building Partnership program.

“The extension will provide the perfect venue for their bingo, movie afternoons, games, craft workshops, and special celebrations such as Mother’s and Father’s Day, Christmas, NAIDOC, Volunteer and Carers Week.”

As a border town, Mr Marshall said State of Origin matches were always an excellent time for social gatherings, and as the new extension would include a television, he envisaged many a lively gathering on game nights.

“The extension will include bathroom faculties, a small kitchen and will have access to an outdoor area so it will be a great venue and I’m sure get lots of use,” he said.

Mungindi CHSP Co-ordinator Katherine McMillan said her team was very excited about the funding and were looking forward to getting the extension built.

“This will make a great difference to the service we are able to offer. It’s so important our seniors are included in social activities on a regular basis and to have a purpose built room in our office precinct will be perfect,” Mrs McMillan said.
