275 PEOPLE TESTED AT GLEN INNES & INVERELL COVID-19 DRIVE-THROUGHS

Friday, 22 May 2020

CLOSE to 275 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the first week of drive-through clinics at Inverell and Glen Innes Hospitals, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall said the high testing rates had meant both clinics would be extended for another week.

“By the time the last swabs are taken today, its estimated 175 tests will have been conducted at Inverell and 100 at Glen Innes Hospitals,” Mr Marshall said.

“Hunter New England Health (HNEH) is assessing the demand for each service weekly and has advised both clinics will continue for another five days, with bookings now being taken for appointments next week.

“The clinic will operate Monday to Friday between the hours 1pm and 3pm. Those looking to be tested must book an appointment in advance by phoning the Inverell clinic on 6721 9520 and Glen Innes clinic on 0438 925 949, between 8am and 4.30pm.

“These clinics are important in ensuring our vulnerable residents and those who live in our more isolated areas are given the peace of mind they are not infected or carrying the virus.

“As coronavirus travel and gathering restrictions continue to ease testing will be one of the key tools used to manage the spread of the illness. The Premier has set a State wide target of 8,000 tests per day and we must all be responsible and do our part to ensure that figure is reached.”

Mr Marshall said with the onset of the change in season people couldn’t get complacent about their health.

“It is clear from the chilly conditions that winter and the sniffles are only just around the corner,” he said.

“The health advice is no matter how mild your symptoms, be they a slight sore throat, cough or shortness of breath, you should be tested. Don’t disregard these signs as simply having a cold or flu.

“People living in communities without drive through screening services can still be tested for coronavirus by contacting their GP of local hospital.”
