LOCAL youngsters will enjoy the newly-refurbished facilities at the Warialda Swim Centre, with a further $358,603 State Government grant secured for the swimming pool, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall said the grant was awarded under the NSW Stronger Country Communities Fund and would be used towards Stage 3 of Gwydir Shire Council’s swimming pool upgrades.
“The Swim Centre at Warialda is a popular hub for the local community, youngsters and older folk alike,” Mr Marshall said.
“Previous state government funding had been secured to upgrade the male and female toilets and shower blocks as well as being used to improve the change room facilities for all users.
“Council also installed a heat system, heat blankets, rollers and winch systems as well as a roof over the changeroom to provide much needed shade and cooling during the scorching summer months.
“The pool hosts a range of activities including learn to swim classes and water aerobics.
“This new funding will be used to further maximise the comfort and useability of the swimming pool for all users, locals and visitors alike.
“Not only is being able to swim a great way to keep fit and healthy but it also saves lives.
“Kids have the opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy spending time with friends and family in the popular leisure hub.
“Well done to Gwydir Shire Mayor John Coulton and the Council team on securing the new round of funds.
“I look forward to visiting again when the refurbishments are complete.”
