GOLFERS teeing up for refreshments at Armidale Golf Club’s 19th hole or potential conference and function organisers can now look forward to enjoying those drinks and relaxing in a brand new clubhouse with the best view in the city.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall today announced a NSW Government grant of $409,000 to refurbish and renovate the club’s kitchen and function room and build a new 80 square meter deck which will take full advantage of the magnificent view over the course and city.
Mr Marshall said the complete overhaul of the clubhouse would give the Armidale Golf Club the opportunity to fill a gap in the local function centre market as well as provide its members with state-of-the-art facilities.
“These upgrades will not only cater to Armidale’s avid golfers, but provide another option for anyone looking to have a large-scale function in a picturesque environment,” Mr Marshall said.
“At the moment, the clubhouse can only deal with small functions but with the refurbishment, they will be in a position to cater for up to 200 patrons with the most attractive outlook in the region.
“Like many regional golf clubs, the Armidale Golf Club has struggled in recent years for many reasons including the limitations of the clubhouse to generate positive cash flow.
“The refurbishment will help underpin current membership and attract new members, increase wider community use of the clubhouse for meetings, weddings, birthdays, family gatherings, conferences and training.”
Golf Club Vice President Hugh Fraser was thrilled with the news and thanked Mr Marshall for his advocacy to ensure the project received the necessary funding through the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“Anyone who has visited the Armidale Golf Course will agree the clubhouse is set in an idyllic location with panoramic views across the golf course and city,” Mr Fraser said.
“Our superb 18-hole golf course will now be complemented with a state of the art club house and function centre. It’s a wonderful outcome and we can’t thank Mr Marshall enough and our project partners, Armidale Regional Council.”
