LIFE will be a picnic at Uralla Showground once six outdoor tables and a new shade structure is installed, with Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall today dusting off the picnic basket to announce a $61,789 State Government grant for the additions.
In the last 12 months, the State Government has provided $389,392 in stimulus and grant funding for projects to improve Uralla Showground.
Mr Marshall said the outdoor furniture would enhance the spectator experience as more community events were staged at the venue.
“Since the land managers embarked on an overhaul of facilities at Uralla Showground two years ago, the facility has become a prominent venue for equine and community events,” Mr Marshall said.
“With facilities on the site at a high standard the focus of the land mangers has turned to improving comfort for spectators and visitors.
“Previously shade sails provided some shelter over tables in front of Pavilion A. Constant exposure to the weather wore away the integrity of the sails and they were subsequently removed.
“The new permanent structure will be connected to the hospitality sector of Pavilion A, where people line-up to purchase food and drinks. This will provide valuable protection from the sun during the warmer months, whilst also offering an area out of the rain
“It is incredible to see how far the Uralla Showground has come in such a short period.
“Congratulations to the land mangers on the way they have developed facilities to serve the entire community.”
Uralla Showground Trust Chair Bev Stubberfield said this project would demonstrate to the community the efforts of the board to continue to enhance all facilities for the benefit of existing and future user groups.
“It is the goal of our board to make the showground accessible and attractive to as many user potential groups as possible,” Mrs Stubberfield said.
“We want people to feel comfortable when they come to spectate an event or participate in a community gathering.
“This new shade structure and seating will support the family friendly atmosphere we are trying to create, giving people somewhere to take a load off while they have lunch and soak up atmosphere.”
