APPLICATIONS FOR NAIDOC WEEK GRANTS CLOSING SOON

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall today reminded local community groups that funding applications for NAIDOC Week events close this Friday.

Mr Marshall said the NSW Government grants support events that highlight Aboriginal history and culture.

“Grants of $500-$1,000 are available for most events and grants of up to $3,000 are available for larger community events,” Mr Marshall said.

“In previous years the grants have funded activities and events including community festivals and public exhibitions.

“This funding helps local Aboriginal land councils, schools and community groups to celebrate this important week in our nation’s cultural calendar.”

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams said NAIDOC Week 2015 will be held from 5-12 July.

“The theme for NAIDOC Week 2015 is We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate. This theme recognises the important connection that Aboriginal people have with the land,” Mrs Williams said.

“NAIDOC Week is a time to share the stories of these places and to also acknowledge those people who work to protect the land.

“Grant applications can be made through the NSW Government’s Aboriginal Affairs website. The online system is user friendly, registration is simple and the online forms are supported by instructions and a question guide.

“Organisations that have previously registered for the grants can use the same details, so there is no need to register again.”
