MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall is encouraging the Armidale community to experience the culinary creations and exceptional service of the TAFE NSW Café M training restaurant on Monday evenings.

The fully-licensed restaurant is operated by TAFE NSW Certificate III Commercial Cookery and Certificate III Hospitality students and teachers and offers a three-to-five course menu and a complimentary drink for just $30 per person.

Mr Marshall, who was in the kitchen yesterday and had the dining experience last night, said the TAFE NSW commercial kitchens and restaurant were invaluable training facilities in preparing students for the fast-paced hospitality industry in the region.

“The training restaurant is an essential component of ensuring TAFE NSW cookery and hospitality graduates are job-ready for employment opportunities,” Mr Marshall said.

“This is a great time for school leavers to consider enrolling in Responsible Service of Alcohol and Gambling, bar skills, barista training and other short courses to obtain the skills necessary to apply for part-time jobs.

“There is no experience substitute for a full-service dining room with real, paying customers.”

TAFE NSW Commercial Cookery student and New England Hotel apprentice Christopher Knights said the restaurant has enabled him to put into practice important skills that will help them create successful careers in the hospitality industry.

“The commercial kitchen and simulated restaurant training facilities are the perfect hands-on learning environment and the experience has given me an insight into what it is actually like to run a kitchen,” he said.

“Each week, one of the students is responsible for creating and costing a menu, and practicing different cooking techniques and act as Head Chef in control of the kitchen.”

The TAFE NSW Café M training restaurant is open for dinner service every Monday evening from until 29 November. To book a table, please call 6773 7137.
