VISITING and local anglers and recreational boaters will soon have easy access to Copeton Dam’s 46km2 of pristine water reserves, with $76,100 NSW Government funding to enable access to Sepoy Knob boat ramp at all dam levels.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall recently visited the Copeton Waters Holiday Park to announce the NSW Government funding, saying the project would bolster the dam’s growing national and international reputation.
“This $76,100 funding will complete the Sepoy Knob boat ramp to provide easy dam access at all times, no matter what the level of the dam,” Mr Marshall said.
“The current boat ramp enables access up to 25 per cent dam capacity but from there, there’s no proper access until the water level hits 70 per cent.
“With Copeton Dam currently at 31 per cent capacity, watergoers may struggle to get larger boats into the water, which can prove to be a serious frustration for those looking to start some heavy duty fishing.”
Mr Marshall said the funding would see the existing concrete boat ramp extended by 144 metres and a floating pontoon access point installed, providing easy entry to the dam at all water levels for people of all abilities.
“Copeton Dam is quickly picking up international renown for its excellent all-year round cod fishing, with more than 80,000 visitors travelling to the holiday park last year.
“This upgrade will provide access for larger and more comfortable boats, helping to lure international visitors who are looking for a premium fishing experience.”
Reflections Holiday Parks Copeton Waters Manager Dave Allan said the funding was a big win for all park users.
“Ongoing investments made to new infrastructure at our park signals a continuation of our goal to provide improved services to showcase the best of our region,” Mr Allen said.
“We’ve already proven Copeton as the premiere boating and watersports destination in northern NSW and these improvements to the boat-launching facilities will make the ease and timeliness of water vessels getting in and out of the water much easier.
“With thousands of boats utilising the ramp each year it is important to see this facility improve for users with limited mobility.”
