NORTHERN Tablelands MP Adam Marshall is encouraging local students to use National Skills Week as an opportunity to consider an apprenticeship or traineeship as a long-term career and to share in the benefits from the state’s investment in infrastructure.
Mr Marshall said National Skills Week would inform and inspire people all ages to explore the benefits of vocational education and training.
“Workforce and industry needs are rapidly changing, with three quarters of the fastest growing occupations in Australia requiring skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” Mr Marshall said.
“Apprentices and traineeships are vital to the economic growth and development of country NSW and this week we celebrate the opportunities for people of all ages to gain the skills of the future.
“The $2.3 billion investment in vocational education and training from the government will deliver over 450,000 places for students to become skilled workers like mechanics, electricians and technology experts to ensure the NSW economy remains strong.”
The National Skills week ambassadors include the NSW and Australian VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year, Steve Aitkins and Sally Moylan, ACT and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander of Year.
National Skills Week runs from the 24 to 30 August 2015.
