DON’T BE A TOSSER THIS EASTER LONG WEEKEND

Tuesday, 22 March 2016

NORTHERN Tablelands MP Adam Marshall is encouraging Northern Tablelands residents not to be tossers this Easter long weekend by taking responsibility for their rubbish and either placing it in a bin or taking it with them.

“From this week Hey Tosser! ads will roll out across the state, including on TV, radio, social media, billboards, and some public transport to remind people to dispose of their litter responsibly,” Mr Marshall said.

“The aim of this campaign is to spread the message that being a tosser is not acceptable.”

Since March last year more than 10,000 people have registered to report littering from a vehicle, resulting in more than 13,000 reports and over 8,000 fines.

Mr Marshall said the objective of this Hey Tosser! campaign was to reduce food and drink container litter, cigarette butts and littering from vehicles during Easter.

Environment Minister Mark Speakman said every year the NSW government, NSW councils, land managers and community groups spent more than $162 million collectively managing litter.

“The government is committed to reducing the volume of litter in NSW by 40 per cent by 2020,” Mr Speakman said.
