PARENTS across the Northern Tablelands are being encouraged to take advantage of free car seat checks being run by NSW Roads and Maritime Services around the electorate next week.
Local State MP Adam Marshall urged parents to book in to have their baby capsules and restraints checked.
“An authorised restraint fitter will carry out safety checks on capsules, car seats and restraints, completely free of charge,” Mr Marshall said.
“There are numerous car seats and capsules on the market and it can be hard to spot an issue.
“The authorised restraint fitter will be looking for common problems such as checking straps, checking clips and replacing loose bolts, as well as providing advice on how to fit devices, what types of restraints are recommended and when to move a child from one type of restraint to another.
“It is critical baby capsules and children’s car seats are fitted correctly. An unrestrained child can sustain devastating injuries in the event of a crash, or even sudden braking if a restraint is incorrectly fitted.
“Research shows two out of three child restraints are not being used properly and this puts children at risk in the event of a crash.
“This free check is a fast and easy way for parents to check their devices and have peace of mind that they are fitted correctly.”
Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 6604 9304.
The check will occur at the following locations:
Glen Innes – Tuesday, 22 May, Glen Innes Showground, 1pm-4pm;
Guyra – Wednesday, 23 May, Guyra Public Library, 10.30am-11.30am;
Armidale – Thursday, 24 May, Curtis Park Carpark, 9am-noon; and
Uralla – Friday, 25 May, Uralla Information Centre carpark, 9am-noon.
