THE old corrugated iron perimeter fence at the Moree Showground is soon to be replaced thanks to an $83,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Public Reserves Management Fund (PRMF), Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall met with the Moree Showground Trust administrator, Crown Lands Officer Sandra Abrahamsen, yesterday to deliver the good news and discuss the plans to construct the new fence.

“A total of $413,572 has been allocated to projects in the Northern Tablelands and I’m pleased to see the Moree Showground will receive these funds to build a new security fence,” Mr Marshall said.

“The Moree Showground has been managed by Crown Lands for several years now and I’m very pleased they now have the funds to make this very important upgrade.

“The old perimeter fence is a bit of an eye sore; the old corrugated sheets of iron are no longer secure and present a risk to the public.

“People try to gain entry to the showgrounds through the loose panels and there is potential for them to injure themselves.

“It was built a long time ago and the new security fence will definitely improve the aesthetics of the general area and improve the ability of the showground to provide security for events,” he said.

Mr Marshall said the security fence would be consistent with new section of the perimeter fence which was erected a few years ago when work began on the Moree bypass.
