MOREE’S Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC) is now swimming in the fast lane with Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announcing a further State Government grant of $892,000 for Moree Plains Shire Council to undertake more upgrades at the iconic tourist drawcard.
Mr Marshall was joined by Mayor Mark Johnston and Councillors at the Aquatic Centre to announce the latest cash splash, secured under the NSW Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“We want to ensure Moree’s artesian spa is the best in the region and this funding will go a long way to ensure it meets the needs of the community,” Mr Marshall said.
“More than 200,000 of tourists visit Moree each year to soak in the calming and healing hot artesian waters, so it’s important the facilities be continually improved to provide visitors with the best experience possible,” Mr Marshall said.
“The latest round of funding will be used to modernise and update the hot pools area of the complex and future-proof those facilities for years to come.
“Council is out to tender at the moment to construct a new public 50-metre Olympic pool, which will be fantastic after going without for three summers now.
“The big slide and splash park upgrades are also coming along.
“Hopefully it’s not long now until council has the entire complex looking and performing its best for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Since 2017, the State Government has provided almost $7.8 million in funding to council to upgrade facilities at the Aquatic Centre.
Moree Plains Shire Mayor Mark Johnston said council was thrilled to receive the latest funding support.
“Council is elated to receive the funding through the Building Stronger Country Community Program and thank you to Adam for his ongoing support,” Cr Johnson said.
“The funding will be used to assist Council in the refurbishment of the hot artesian pools at the Centre.”
