GLEN INNES CROP FIELD DAY PROMOTES DROUGHT RESILIANCE THIS WEEK

Tuesday, 29 October 2019

NORTHERN Tablelands MP and Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall is urging livestock and crop producers from across the region to attend a Dual Purpose Crops field day at Glen Innes this Thursday.

Mr Marshall said the field day would demonstrate the latest NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) research, conducted in partnership with the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services.

“There is so much incredible research being done at the Glen Innes Agricultural Research & Advisory Station aimed at helping farmers maximise productivity during dry times and the good,” Mr Marshall said.

“This field day will assist producers and growers in getting the best out of their livestock and crop production by providing updates on the latest trials while also discussing dual purpose cereal agronomy trials, dry matter production and perennial cereals.

“The Glen Innes area has not been spared the impacts of this terrible drought and I see this field day as a great opportunity for landholders to access information which could support them in making decisions as the dry continues.”

Presentations on the day will include:

  • An overview of the Research Station and the current research by Carol Harris;
  • Perennial cereals by Richard Hayes;
  • Dual purpose crop trials by Rick Graham; and
  • How to incorporate dual purpose crops into our farm program by Georgie Oakes

The field day is on this Thursday, 30 October, at the Glen Innes Agricultural Research & Advisory Station.

RSVP for the field day, breakfast and handouts to Keith Pengilley on mobile 0447 233 120 or email keith.pengilley@dpi.nsw.gov.au or Carol Harris on 0458 206 973 or carol.harris@dpi.nsw.gov.au
