GLEN INNES NEXT STOP FOR SUPER SATURDAY MASS VAX WALK-IN HUB

Monday, 30 August 2021

FOLLOWING the huge success of recent University of New England Medical Centre Mass COVID Vaccination Walk-In Hubs in Armidale, Inverell and Moree, it will be the Glen Innes community’s turn this ‘Super Saturday’ to receive their free vaccination shots, with no appointments required.

Making the announcement today, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said due to community demand the decision had been made to take the mass vaccination hub on the road again this weekend, to provide the people of the Glen Innes district with the opportunity to fast-track their vaccinations.

Between 9am and 3pm this Saturday (4 September), ANY member of the public over the age of 18 (medical history considered), will be able to walk into the Glen Innes Showground main pavilion, roll up their sleeve and receive their first or second AstraZeneca jab.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Glen Innes locals to get their first or second COVID jab this Saturday, easily and quickly,” Mr Marshall said.

“Just as the Armidale, Inverell and Moree communities have responded overwhelmingly over the last three weeks, now it’s Glen Innes’ chance to turnout in their droves and get vaccinated.

It couldn’t be easier on Super Saturday in Glen Innes to get your jab – just pull out your Medicare card, put on your mask, turn up and roll up your sleeve.

“This all about providing people in the Glen Innes district with even more opportunity to get their vaccination now, supporting the efforts of our local GPs and pharmacists.

“Understandably, demand for vaccinations has sky-rocketed with the events of the last few weeks and this is a local solution to meet that demand and make it as easy as it can be to get jabbed.

Almost 1,800 people in Armidale, Inverell and Moree have received their jabs through the UNE Mass Vaccination Walk-In hubs during the four clinics offered in the last three weeks.

Last Saturday, 428 people were vaccinated in Moree with 82 per cent of them receiving their first dose.

“The Glen Innes and surrounding communities have done a great job rolling up their sleeves so far, so please take advantage of this opportunity and together let’s make Super Saturday in Glen Innes a smashing success!

Mr Marshall said the Glen Innes Vaccination Hub would have a full complement of doctors and nurses on hand, putting as many jabs in arms as they possibly can this Saturday, with vaccine supplies being boosted with a delivery by NSW Health, and providing health advice to those who had questions about vaccines.

“If we have more demand than can be catered for this Saturday, we’ll see this hub run on additional days as well, as we don’t want to see anyone who wants a jab to miss out,” Mr Marshall said.

“Those who receive a jab this Saturday, will be booked in for their second dose, in four weeks’ time.

“Rest assured, receiving a vaccine is a reasonable excuse to leave home under the lockdown stay-at-home order.”

COVID marshals will be present on the day to ensure mask wearing, social distancing and provide hand sanitiser.

“I want to sincerely thank the team at the UNE Medical Centre and Vice Chancellor Brigid Heywood for their support and supporting our community with this wonderful initiative.

“It’s vital we get our vaccination rates up, not only to protect our fellow citizens, but also to get our lives back to some form of normality, free of lockdowns and other restriction measures.”

The Super Saturday Glen Innes Mass Vaccination Walk-In Hub will operate between 9am to 3pm at the Glen Innes Showground Main Pavilion. Entry will be via the Bourke Street entrance.
