MUNGINDI Homes for the Aged residents are jumping for joy today following the announcement of a $115,000 State Government grant, by Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall, to upgrade another five units in the council-owned complex.

Mr Marshall made a visit to the units to meet with local volunteer committee members and deliver the funding news.

He said the grant would allow critical upgrades to occur in the five of the units, to bring them up to modern standards.

“This is the first major upgrade these units will have had since they were built 40 years ago,” Mr Marshall said.

“The local management committee has spruced up a couple of the units with their own funds, but this grant will enable them to do the rest.

“This is not only a huge boost for the complex, but also a relief for the committee which would have had to fundraise for years to undertake the remaining upgrades.

“These units are essential in the Mungindi community, providing low-cost housing, especially for older people, so they can remain local in the community they grew up in and love.”

Mr Marshall said the upgrades would include new flooring and bathrooms in each of the units, as well as new security locks and lighting around the complex.

“The Mungindi Homes for the Aged provides affordable, comfortable and safe living and is an important hub for social connection and wellbeing,” Mr Marshall said.

“Residents can maintain their independent lifestyle while remaining connected to the local community.

“This is an exciting upgrade for residents, visitors and staff alike.

“Well done to Moree Plains Shire Council for securing the funding.”
