ROAD users and visitors to the Barraba region are expected to benefit from major upgrades to two historic bridges along the Fossickers Way, starting this month
The NSW Government will start work to improve both Bottle Creek Bridge located approximately 14.2km south of Barraba in the Tamworth Regional Council local government area (LGA) and Moore Whites Gully Bridge located approximately 19.7km north of Barraba in the Gwydir Shire LGA.
Local MPs Kevin Anderson and Adam Marshall welcomed the large investment in maintaining and modernising two of the region’s historical bridges.
“The repair work aims to improve the historic structures which were both built in 1901 and ensure they perform well into the future,” Mr Anderson said.
“The NSW Government has committed $3.1 million to carry out strengthening work which will include work to replace the existing bridge decks, install new guard rails and resurface the road on both bridges and road approaches.”
Mr Marshall said the upgrade works would be undertaken on the bridges simultaneously from next Wednesday, 21 January, from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
“Work is expected to be complete on both bridges by June this year with the bridges to remain open to traffic for the duration of the deck replacement work,” Mr Marshall said.
“Changed traffic conditions will be in place on each bridge including a partial lane closure while the work is carried out to ensure safety of road users and workers.”
The MPs urged road users to follow the direction of traffic controllers, adhere to reduced speed limits and follow traffic signs during the work.
Motorists are also being asked to allow for additional travel time whist the upgrades are completed. Up to date information, including any date changes and detours will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
