MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall today announced a grant of $4,849 from the State Government to install new disabled amenities at the Inverell Rifle Range.
Mr Marshall said the Inverell RSM Civilian Rifle Club members had been working through a priority list of projects in an effort to make the rifle range more accessible to the wider community.
“For some time Inverell’s competitive shooters have wanted to construct disabled toilets at the range, but have struggled to come up with the finance,” Mr Marshall said.
“Currently, the venue has both men’s and women’s toilets and showers but does not have amenities which cater for someone who is wheelchair bound or has limited mobility.
“This grant will transition one of the range’s general toilets into a unisex disabled toilet.
“This new toilet will assist to make the range more inclusive and aid Inverell’s shooting clubs with promoting future events to competitors from away.”
Inverell RSM Civilian Rifle Club President Alistair Williams said the reserve was badly impacted by bushfires last year and this development was part of its recovery.
“At the start of 2020 the rifle range’s shed and boundary fence was destroyed by bushfire, which was a major blow for our user groups,” Mr Williams said.
“Since then the Inverell Rifle Range Reserve land managers have worked diligently to rebuild and advance our facilities, and give our user groups the best possible conditions to compete.
“The range services 50 shooters on a regular basis, and with the target rifle community having many disabled participants, we would like to be able to offer facilities that encourages them to become involved.
“We see the construction of these amenities as a great opportunity to increase the exposure of our sport and potentially attract a new range of members who may have previously been precluded from participating.”
