SENIORS in Inverell are jumping for joy with the announcement of a $1,400 funding boost for next year’s NSW Seniors Festival, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall made the announcement at Cooinda Retirement Village, alongside residents and board members.

“Cooinda will use the funds to host a free luncheon event open to all seniors and older residents in the community next year,” Mr Marshall said.

“It was wonderful to meet with board members of the Inverell Churches Retirement Community and congratulate them on the grant.

“The organising committee are already hard at work planning next year’s event, which will be designed to encourage older residents to remain engaged and active.

“We have so many wonderful seniors in our community, and this is our way of thanking them for their contribution.”

Mr Marshall said the theme for the 2024 NSW Seniors Festival was ‘reach beyond’ –encouraging seniors to expand their horizons by trying a new activity or meeting new people.

“Connection to community is so important for older people and bonding over lunch can reduce social isolation in a fun and friendly way,” he said.

“Residents will be encouraged to meet new people, connect with others and form new friendships.”

Mr Marshall said the Inverell Churches Retirement Community was among almost 50 organisations across NSW to share in $200,000 in funding to stage activities and events during the 2024 NSW Seniors Festival.

The 2024 NSW Seniors Festival will run from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 March 2024.
