MARSHALL WELCOMES ORIGIN ENERGY DEAL WITH MOREE SOLAR FARM

Thursday, 31 March 2016

MEMBER for Northern Tablelands has today welcomed an announcement by Origin Energy that it will buy all the power produced from the Moree Solar Farm.

The 15 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been reached with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures’ which recently commissioned the 56 Megawatt (MW) solar farm.

“This is brilliant news for the solar farm and energy customers across our region and the state,” Mr Marshall said.

The Moree Solar Farm is the second largest in Australia and the first large scale solar facility to use a single-axis tracking system (it holds 223,000 solar photovoltaic or [PV] modules) that can follow the sun’s path to maximise the 56MW capacity which can power 24,000 homes.

Origin Chief Executive Officer, Energy Markets, Frank Calabria said Origin had contracted for 100 per cent of the electricity generated and 100 per cent of the Renewable Energy Certificates created from the Solar Farm.

This will help meet Origin’s obligations under the Federal Government’s Renewable Energy Target.

“I will continue my strong support and advocacy of renewable energy projects in the Northern Tablelands,” Mr Marshall said.

“They not only diversify our energy supply plus, but are good for the environment and generate jobs and economic investment in our region.”
