MOREE’S Chalky’s Boxing Gym has been given a $12,000 State Government funding punch to invest in new boxing equipment, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall said he was pleased to deliver the knockout news in person to manager and local boxing legend Colin ‘Chalky’ Rice in Moree last Friday.

“This is terrific news for Chalky’s Boxing Gym, which helps Moree’s local youngsters build confidence and character as well as skills in boxing,” Mr Marshall said.

“The gym will use the funds to purchase new boxing equipment and help support its activities including helping kids build self-esteem and social skills.

“Since Chalky’s opened in 2020, it has been a lively and popular hub for local youth, and I have no doubt these funds will go a long way to support its activities.”

Manager of Chalky Boxing Gym Colin Rice said he appreciated the support and funding from the government.

“The assistance in helping our gym secure funding will enable us to sustain our programs and expand our reach, thereby enriching the lives of countless individuals in the community,” Mr Rice said.

“Our vision for Chalky’s Boxing Gym is a transformative space for youth empowerment and community engagement, that gives them a chance to interact with others, and helps them develop social skills, improves depression and anxiety symptoms, builds self-esteem, better health and fitness.

“We operate on minimal fees to ensure accessibility for disadvantaged youth and the larger families, and securing this generous grant will allow our gym to continue operating this way, while investing in new equipment that will help develop our facilities and programs.”
