LOCAL State MP Adam Marshall has today congratulated Moree local Tian Harris for being named the 2024 Northern Tablelands Local Woman of the Year.

Mr Marshall said the award was well deserved and overdue recognition of Tian’s outstanding contribution to the Moree community over many years.

“Tian has spent countless hours volunteering for local organisations and has dedicated her life to promoting Moree Plains Shire,” Mr Marshall said.

“She has been involved with the Moree Historical Society, Moree on a Plate, the State Emergency Service, Lions Club, Moree View Club, Westpac Helicopter, Weemelah CWA, Gwydir Family History Society, and the NSW Dickens Society.

“While working at Tourism Moree and Moree Plains Shire Council, Tian set up the popular Mobile Library Van, created a Moree history walk, and initiated and developed an exhibition entitled ‘Moree Council Then and Now’ for Local Government Week.”

Mr Marshall said Tian was passionate about history and had exceptional knowledge of the local community.

“Congratulations to Tian on this thoroughly deserved award and recognition of the years of dedication to her community and so many causes and groups,” Mr Marshall said.

Ms Harris said she was excited and grateful to be named Northern Tablelands Local Woman of the Year 2024.

“I am very humbled that I was nominated for such an honour,” Ms Harris said.

“I love the community and the Moree Plains Shire that I live in and giving back to the community is something I love doing and enjoy.”

The Local Woman of the Year Awards will be held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney next Thursday, 7 March.
