MP CONGRATULATES GLEN INNES ON LOCKDOWN ‘EARLY RELEASE’

Thursday, 23 September 2021

MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall has praised and thanked the Glen Innes and district community today, following confirmation the entire local government area (LGA) would come out of lockdown at midnight tonight, a day earlier than expected.

As ecstatic Mr Marshall said the result, which sees the LGA come out of lockdown a day earlier than scheduled, was directly attributable to the hard work and discipline of the local community.

“No-one wanted to go into lockdown, least of all me, but when the decision was made the community responded in typical no-nonsense country fashion – everyone knuckled down, followed the rules and got on with it,” Mr Marshall said.

“That proactive attitude helped ensure there was no additional spread of COVID and I’m thrilled that hard work has been not just acknowledged, but rewarded by authorities with an early release from lockdown.

“Glen Innes has now set a wonderful example for every other community which may find itself in a similar position – stay calm, knuckle down and get the job done!

“Glen Innes has shown that you can go into and come out of lockdown within six days, which is tremendous result – I am very proud of the way the community responded.

“My thoughts are also with the two COVID-positive individuals and I hope they make a full recovery very soon.”

Mr Marshall said that from tonight, once again all the Northern Tablelands would be free of lockdown restrictions.

“Hopefully we can keep it that way until we reach those critical 70 and 80 per cent statewide fully vaccinated rates, at which point lockdowns will be a thing of the past,” he said.

“Until then, we all still need to on alert and taking steps to keep ourselves, our families and our local communities safe.”
