TERMITES at Ashford Golf Club will soon be out-of-the-woodwork with Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall today announcing a $155,146 State Government grant to stop the bugs dead in their tracks.
Mr Marshall said the grant was secured under the Stronger Country Communities Fund and would help eradicate the termites and support a clean and healthy golfing environment for all.
“During a recent visit to the club I could see how much white ant damage was in the Golf Club’s main building,” Mr Marshall said.
“Cracked and hollow timber along the roof as well as cracks along the walls – the damage is dreadful.
“The grant will also be used help improve disability access to the clubhouse and course to ensure the facilities can be enjoyed by everyone in the community.
“Well done to Club Captain Kelvin Paul for persevering through the invasion of white ants and securing the funding to fix the problem.”
Club Captain Kelvin Paul said the local golfing community was thrilled to receive the funding.
“We have had a long-term ongoing battle with termite infestation,” Mr Paul said.
“The grant will guarantee the golfing future of the Ashford community and funds can be used to maintain the golf course and make it a better facility and atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
“It will be great to see our Golf Club returned to its former glory as it’s such an asset to the community.
“We currently have 18 playing members but it is there for the community as a whole and surrounding areas.
“The builder is hoping to start within three months and complete the project 3-4 weeks after that.”
