NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR REGION’S LOCAL LANDS SERVICES BOARDS

Monday, 10 February 2020

NORTHERN Tablelands MP and Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall is calling on landholders and primary producers to nominate as a candidate in the upcoming 2020 Local Land Services (LLS) board member elections.

Mr Marshall said nominations were now open until the end of the month for six positions in the region – three with Northern Tablelands LLS and three with North West LLS – and hoped a diverse range of candidates would throw their hat into the ring.

“This election there have been changes to the voting process that will deliver a more streamlined and robust election,” Mr Marshall said.

“It is now easier to vote and participate, as all eligible LLS ratepayers have been automatically included on the electoral roll for the first time.

“This year will also see one vote per ratepayer or company in each region, regardless of the number of holdings they have, meaning each ratepayer will have equal say in who will represent them on their local board.”

Mr Marshall said during times of drought and devastating bushfires it would be more important than ever for local board members to work with communities to help identify and deliver the services they need most.

“There is no doubt the agricultural sector is doing it tough and the road to recovery is going to be a long one, but I am sure there will be no shortage of skilled candidates who will provide a strong voice for regional communities,” Mr Marshall said.

Across all 11 NSW Local Land Services regions, ratepayers will elect 34 board members to work with appointed board members and the Chair to ensure the efficient delivery of services to farmers and land managers across the State.

To nominate as a candidate visit www.austelect.com.au or www.lls.nsw.gov.au and download a candidate information package and nomination form.
