NORTHERN Tablelands MP Adam Marshall has today called on members of the Uralla community to get tested for COVID-19, with the town recording five consecutive positive sewage detections.
A Hunter New England Health pop-up testing clinic will operate at the Uralla Driver Reviver, 115 Bridge Street Uralla, on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1pm and 3pm. Bookings are required by calling 0427 923 080.
Mr Marshall said consistent sewerage detections in Uralla meant it was likely there was someone in the community who either has, or has had, the COVID-19 virus.
“With lockdowns a thing of the past in NSW it’s important as soon as a sewage detect or positive case is identified, the community steps up and responds, to prevent any chance of a large-scale outbreak,” Mr Marshall said.
“Since Thursday, 7 October, there now has been five consecutive detects of COVID-19 fragments in Uralla’s sewage.
“Everyone is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
“Please don’t disregard that blocked nose or scratchy throat as hay fever and as soon those symptoms present get tested.”
A last sewage sample was taken on Monday this week.
Mr Marshall said while the Uralla local government area’s adult double dose vaccination rate was the highest in the region, there was still a considerable number of people not fully protected.
“Uralla’s double dose vaccination rate for people 15 years and over has reached 76.8 percent,” he said.
“While this is an outstanding effort there are still a number of people in the community who remain at risk.
“The positive detections highlights the fact we remain exposed to the deadly virus and I want to use this opportunity to encourage those who haven’t yet received one dose of vaccine to book an appointment as soon as possible.”
