THANK YOU TO OUR HEROES IN ORANGE

 Tuesday, 22 May 2018

NORTHERN Tablelands MP Adam Marshall is urging everyone across the region to select some orange from their wardrobes tomorrow to thank NSW State Emergency Services (NSW SES) volunteers this WOW (Wear Orange Wednesday).

Mr Marshall said WOW Day was celebrated annually across the country on the Wednesday of National Volunteer Week.

“I urge our community to get involved with WOW Day by wearing something orange in appreciation of our hardworking and dedicated SES volunteers,” Mr Marshall said.

“SES volunteers play a vital role in helping prepare for and recover from all kinds of emergencies and it’s important they’re recognised for their outstanding work.

“WOW Day is about celebrating the volunteers who put the community ahead of themselves, and I would encourage everyone to get behind this fantastic campaign to show their support of these hard working men and women.”

The SES performs a number of vital roles during storms and emergencies, including tarping roofs in howling winds, rescuing people and animals from floods, attending serious road accidents, clearing fallen trees, coordinating community education programs, or searching for missing people.

The NSW State Emergency Service has more than 9,000 volunteers who give up their time to train for and respond to emergencies and natural disasters, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

They are the lifeblood of communities across NSW and last year responded to more than 32,000 requests for assistance.
