IT won’t take ‘20 good reasons’ to get the Moree community along to this year’s show, with a 29,968 State Government Country Shows Support Package grant helping secure Australian rock legends Thirsty Merc for the opening night.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall recently met with Moree Show Society President Brendan Munn to discuss plans for the biggest event in the show’s almost 150-year history.

“Forget the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with Thirsty Merc rocking out its Moree which is taking patrons back ‘to the sweet times and hot nights’,” Mr Marshall said.

“Since the drought, Moree Show Society has been hoping ‘someday, someday’ it will be able to host a show which reconnects the community with this important rural event.

“Through the Country Shows Support Package, show societies everywhere have upped their game, offering exciting entertainment options which have attracted new patrons and boosted gate takings.

“Moree Show Society will also use its funds to subsidies operating costs including advertising, security, trophies, prizemoney sawdust, hay and rubbish removal.

“With fireworks, aerial motorbike displays, a farmers challenge, agricultural exhibits and the pavilion there really will be something for everyone this year.

“I congratulate Brendan and his ‘motley crew’ support team for putting together such a high quality schedule and hope the hard work pays off with ticket sales.”

Moree Show Society President Brendan Munn said the funding would ensure the 2022 show was a rocking success.

“The Moree Show is a much anticipated event for the whole district, and an important date on the social calendar,” Mr Munn said

“We are very thankful for this ongoing support which removes the financial pressures we face every year.

“This funding means that the Moree Show can be a sustainable event, and continues to be the pride of the community for years to come.”

Moree Show will run on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 April. Information about the event, including ticket bookings, can be found at www.moreeshowsociety.org
