NORTHERN Tablelands MP and Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall has today announced primary producers and small businesses across the region which have been devastated by the recent bushfires can now access recovery grants of $15,000.

Mr Marshall said following multiple visits to local fire grounds its clear communities would need every bit of help possible to start rebuilding their lives.

“Our farmers have already been battling the worst drought on record and to top that off the recent fires have been an absolute kick in the teeth,” Mr Marshall said.

“The fire grounds in Northern NSW alone have burnt out over 1 million hectares which is why these grants are available to operators in 18 local-government areas including Armidale Regional, Glen Innes Severn, Inverell, Tenterfield and Walcha Shire Councils.

“These grants will be important in helping people start on the road to recovery, putting cash in farmer’s pockets to purchase new equipment and procure feed and fodder.

“For those landholders, particularly in the Ebor area, who have to rebuild boundary fences with NSW National Parks this grant will be welcome news as it will provide funds to cover the cost of hiring contractors to help erect kilometres of fences in extremely rough terrain.”

The $48.5 million recovery package also includes $18.2 million in funding for targeted community projects as well as mental health support.

“These fires have taken livelihoods, they’ve taken homes and most of all they’ve taken an emotional toll on all those who have come into contact with them,” Mr Marshall said.

“That’s why I’m pleased the fire recovery package includes grants for targeted community projects as well as mental health support.

“I encourage farmers and small businesses who have been impacted by the recent fires to get in touch with the NSW Rural Assistance Authority and apply for grant assistance.”
