$5,000 HELPS GILGAI STUDENTS STAY OUT OF THE RAIN

EVERY student at Gilgai Public School can now get from their classroom to the bus under protection from the weather, thanks to $5,000 in funding from the NSW Government.

The funds, matched by the school, enabled Gilgai Public to complete a network of covered walkways that ensure students can access all classrooms and the bus zone while staying under cover.

“This is a great use of the government’s capital works funds,” said Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall, who visited the school to view the completed project.

“The timing has been perfect – in the past few weeks of persistent rain, Gilgai’s students have been able to move from classroom to classroom, and to the school’s drop-off zone, without getting drenched.”

The NSW Government’s 2016-17 Capital Works program has seen hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in Northern Tablelands schools, to improve access, comfort and safety for the schools’ students and staff.

“I expect that in the order of $6 million will be allocated to our region’s school capital works program over the next two years, aimed mainly at painting, and repair and replacement of floors and roofs,” Mr Marshall said.

“I’m proud to be part of a government that is allocating more than $1 billion extra over the next four years towards upgrading our State’s schools.

“A well-maintained school sends the right message to students, and ensures that schools, one of our most important public assets, take their rightful pride of place in our communities.”
