MOREE TAFE has launched a new program aimed at securing employment for Moree locals on the Narrabri to North Star section of the Inland Rail project, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall visited the Moree campus last week to see the program in action, meeting 10 locals who are currently studying a Statement of Attainment in Civil Construction and Workplace Safety, with the opportunity to gain employment with Trans4m Rail upon graduation.
“The Narrabri to North Star rail project is providing a huge shot in the arm for the Moree economy and this program has the potential to deliver jobs directly into the local community,” Mr Marshall said.
“Trans4m Rail is constructing stage 1 of the Narrabri to North Star rail project, upgrading the existing rail corridor and constructing 1.7 kilometres of new track near Moree.
“Locally-based skilled workers are needed to assist in completing the upgrades.
“The collaboration with Moree TAFE is part of Trans4m Rail’s ongoing strategy to engage with local and regional training providers to help skill communities to gain work on the Inland Rail project.
“This is a once-in-a-generation infrastructure project that will strengthen supply chains and improve access for rural and regional areas to customers across Australia and beyond.
“The collaboration between Moree TAFE and Trans4m Rail highlights the opportunities available for people to reskill and take advantage of new jobs created by the project.”
As part of the five-day program, participants will undertake Trans4m Rail’s onboarding program, including interviews with project hiring managers and gain the skills to work in entry-level infrastructure roles.
