CRIME FIGHTING FUND TO HELP COMMUNITIES STAY SAFE CLOSING FAST

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall addressing a meeting in Armidale today about the Community Safety Fund.

Applications close next Friday for up to $250,000 per project

NORTHERN Tablelands MP Adam Marshall reminding communities across the region time is running out to lodge an application for up to $250,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s new $10 million Community Safety Fund.

The program, which closes next Friday, 22 January, is open to non-government or not-for-profit organisations, community groups, chambers of commerce and businesses to implement community safety and crime prevention initiatives throughout the state.

Mr Marshall is urging communities across the electorate to think outside the square and develop innovative ideas to reduce crime and stamp out anti-social behaviour.

Today he hosted a meeting in Armidale with the region’s council and education representatives, PCYC, New England Police and Aboriginal Lands Council to discuss potential projects that could be funded from the program.

“This $10 million investment enhances the efforts of the government to push down crime and reduce the fear of crime in our communities,” Mr Marshall said.

“Our police across the New England and Barwon Local Area Commands do a fantastic job and this funding program is a terrific opportunity for us to come up with strategies and plans to consolidate their work.

“I want everyone to feel safe and proud of our local community and this funding allows unique solutions to be implemented.

“I urge local councils and community organisations to apply – we need to work together to address anti-social behavior, and I am looking forward to seeing some of the submissions.”

The Community Safety Fund will support projects that:
• Address local crime hot spots;
• Address anti-social behaviour in communities;
• Promote safe and inclusive use of public spaces; and
• Promote collaborative approaches to community safety and crime reduction, prevention and detection initiatives.
